The precise origin of this beautiful coin remains uncertain, but its type and style indicate it was issued in the 6th century. It boasts a rich history, having been part of the collections of John Work Garrett (1872-1942), who served as the American ambassador to Venezuela, Argentina, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, and Italy, and the French nobleman, numismatist, and inventor Vicomte Gustave de Ponton d’Amécourt (1825-1888).
